INDIANA MEDICAID WAIVER
In the past, Medicaid only paid for long term care services that were provided in an institution, such as nursing facilities and group homes. The waiver program "waives" the requirement of an admission into an institution in order for Medicaid to pay for the needed Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS).
Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver
These waivers are for children and adults with an intellectual disability. They assist a person to:
-
Become involved in the community where he or she lives and works.
-
Enhance social relationships in their home and work communities.
-
Develop skills to make decisions about how and where to live.
-
Be as independent as possible.

These waivers are for children and adults whose needs are primarily medical. They serve to assist a person to be as independent as possible and to live in the least restrictive environment while maintaining safety in the home.
INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES WAIVERS
Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) Waivers, formerly referred to as the DD Waivers serves both children and adults with an intellectual disability, and assist these individuals to:
-
Become involved in the community where he/she lives and works;
-
Develop social relationships in the person's home and work communities;
-
Develop skills to make decisions about how and where the person wants to live;
-
Be as independent as possible.
The Community Integration and Habilitation Waiver provides services that enable individuals to remain in their homes or in community settings and assists those people who transition from state-operated facilities or other institutions into community settings. This waiver is designed to provide supports for persons to gain and maintain optimum levels of self-determination and community integration while allowing flexibility in the provision of those supports. This waiver includes individuals who were previously receiving services on the Autism Waiver.
